I am so happy to tell everyone that my collaborator, Janie Stamm, and I have received a grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation to bring barn quilts into an urban setting. Janie and I are hard at working making a series of 10 barn quilts- all using historic quilt square patterns that specifically reference Missouri and St. Louis. These 10 squares are from 1840-1913. We will be displaying them in ten different St. Louis zipcodes, and hoping to display them in places that were most affected by the Tornado in May. Our goal is to inset rural tradition into urban life, while using a beautiful object to remind folks of the quilts and quilters in their own lives. Here’s a photo of the progress so far!
